The 18th District Court work program is designed to allow defendants to complete community service in lieu of serving jail time. The program has been in operation since the court’s inception and has evolved into a daily program that many city organizations rely on to assist them in their daily operation.
The program cost is $30 per day and is offered 7 days a week between the hours of 8:30am – 4:00pm. Each participant is required to comply with a comprehensive set of rules and are supervised at all times. Failure to comply with the rules or appear results in a show cause hearing in front of their presiding Judge.
The program works with several organizations which include:
- Westland Friendship Center
- Wayne Ford Civic League
- Lighthouse Church
- The Northwest Alano Club
- Several local VFW posts
- Wayne Food Bank
- Westland Golf Course & Ice Arena
- Wayne-Westland Schools
In addition the program as continually assisted with 18th District Court maintenance, 29th District Court in Wayne, roadside trash pick up, and snow removal.
